JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR LIVE NBC MARCY AVENUE ARMORY BROOKLYN NY 2018

THE EMMY AWARD WINNING PRODUCTION DESIGN FOR JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR LIVE (SEE SET DESIGN IN PORTFOLIO / TV, FILM, CONCERTS / JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR LIVE) INCLUDED A SIGNIFICANT ARCHITECTURAL COMPONENT WHICH WAS THE CREATION OF A TEMPORARY THEATER INSIDE THE PREVIOUSLY VAST EMPTY MARCY AVENUE ARMORY IN BROOKLYN NY. THE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN OF THE AUDIENCE WAS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE OVERALL PRODUCTION DESIGN AND HAPPENED CONCURRENTLY WITH THE DESIGN OF THE THEATRICAL SPACE. SIMILAR TO MY WORK WITH RICHARD NELSON AT THE PUBLIC (THE GABRIELS / THE MICHAELS), THE GOAL WAS TO DESIGN A THEATER SPACE WITHIN AN EXISTING SHELL THAT FOCUSED HUMAN ENERGY. THE SCALE OF JCSL WAS OBVIOUSLY MUCH LARGER, BUT THE CONCEPTS WERE SIMILAR - TO CREATE A “ROOM” WITH WALLS OF PEOPLE, TWO SIDE WERE AUDIENCE AND THE OTHER TWO SIDES WERE MUSICIANS / ACTORS. THIS PROJECT WAS SUCH AN INTERESTING MELDING OF MY EXPERIENCE AS ARCHITECT AND SET DESIGNER.
